Project Overview

This project was innovative from beginning to end. It was the first project built on campus in the Design-Build delivery method, using best value basis for the selection criteria; the campus’ first LEED® Platinum building; the incorporation of Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) principles and the first project on campus that utilized Building Information Modeling.

The project consisted of two buildings that are connected via sky-bridge. The three-story, 40,000-square-foot Gallagher Hall houses the Graduate School of Management. The building features open spaces to foster collaboration and a warm sense of community, with classrooms equipped with advanced technology and designed for interactive learning. A state-of-the-art student affairs and career services center to give students a place to develop career-building skills, as well as an outdoor garden and courtyard with space for special events and networking. The 43,000-square-foot conference center houses the University Relations department, a ballroom, conference rooms and restaurant space. The project was part of the new main entrance to the campus.

The collaborative project team embraced the university’s emphasis on sustainability and innovation and realized an opportunity to introduce an underground water loop to provide a highly efficient source of heating and cooling for the building. They took advantage of the site preparation, which included 16 feet of soil excavation and re-compaction, to install a ground-source heat pump/radiant slab system. The innovative system resulted in significant energy savings.
