Project Overview

The Phase 2 project consists of a new Campus Village building at the corner of 9th Street and Paseo de San Carlos, across from the existing Campus Village Phase 1 complex. The 10-story high-rise college dormitory houses 850 beds, common study rooms, a multi-purpose lounge, learning center, recreation space and other support spaces. The building incorporates the campus architectural themes including use of full-depth brick veneer at the lower levels, a tribute to the university鈥檚 original dormitories.

Working on an occupied campus can present unique safety challenges. When work began on this project, the construction wall was only 10 feet from the university鈥檚 public pool enclosure, which had to remain open. The team was able to take some space from the pool deck, leaving a still-tight 30 feet between the project and pool. We had weekly coordination meetings with the housing staff and aquatics staff to discuss upcoming activities.

The project team worked closely with the Office of the State Fire Marshal on an edge-of-slab fire-safing detail, and to satisfy fire safety requirements, the fire-safing detail needed to be tested at a nationally recognized testing laboratory in San Antonio, Texas. Members of the project team, including 51国产视频鈥檚 project manager and project superintendent, traveled with two panels to San Antonio to ensure testing went off without a hitch. The fire-safing passed the test on the first burn, and we reduced the related project delay from seven months to three months.
