Project Overview

For this project, 51国产视频 and a joint venture partner expanded the light rail transit line by 3.2 miles along 19th Avenue. The project included coordinating major utility relocations, widening the roadway to accommodate the 40-foot-wide track alignment and self-performing the track concrete to support the new double tracks. The team also installed the tracks and crossovers, constructed three new train stations with passenger platforms, built a Park-and-Ride lot, constructed three traction power substations, installed new intersection signals, and built the concrete foundations for the overhead catenary system that feeds electricity to the trains.

The team removed and replaced more than 50 miles of water, sewer, storm, gas, electric and communications utilities. The alignment had four major street crossings along 19th Avenue, each of which carry an average of 60,000 cars per day. The alignment runs in front of more than 300 properties, including a retirement/continuing care facility, homes, schools, a major hospital and more. Maintaining access was critical and required daily, sometimes, hourly coordination.

All work through these intersections was coordinated daily with the City of Phoenix. Track crossing work through three of these intersections was scheduled over extended weekends, minimizing disruptions to the travelling public and businesses. To increase public outreach and community involvement, a smartphone app was developed to keep the public informed about the project鈥檚 progression and changing traffic control. The app also provided information about local businesses along the route.
