Project Overview

The 13,300-square-foot Connie Hillman Urban Construction Knowledge Center (CHUCK) is an innovative solution to the community’s needs for affordable housing and a well-trained construction workforce. The Center supports the increased production of affordable housing and provides quality training for a skilled workforce. This addition supplements Habitat for Humanity’s existing facility (also built by 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ in 2013) and acts as the group’s construction hub for Tucson and Southern Arizona.

The 10,800-square-foot, pre-engineered metal building warehouse is used for prefabrication and assembly activities for future home builds as well as for material and equipment storage. The 2,600-square-foot office, conference room and workshop center, which is connected to the south side of the warehouse, is used for on-site training of volunteers and for educational internship opportunities for students in the Applied Technology Program at the local community college. Work also included building pad prep for an approximately 1,700-square-foot residential unit that will house AmeriCorps workers.
