Project Overview
The Golden West College Math and Science Building is a $58 million, three-story, 118,000-square-foot academic facility that features computer labs, lecture rooms, 18 wet and dry science labs, faculty offices and a STEM center. The project was our third and largest to date for Coast Community College District (CCCD). 51国产视频 has gone to great lengths to become a trusted partner, working with the client鈥檚 team to get the most value and least surprises. This was also the story behind our first project, the Orange聽Coast College Business, Math and Computing聽Center, and our second, the Golden West聽College Student Services Center.
While the Math and Science Building project used a CM multi-prime model, our team treated it as if 51国产视频 were performing聽every scope, as if the money were coming out of聽our own pocket. For example, when outside factors disrupted our schedule, we worked closely with our trade partners to completely re-sequence聽the project. Several trades agreed to longer聽durations, and multiple teams, including our own,聽worked weekends to make our deadline. Not only did we meet the fall semester deadline, we were also able to return 2.6% of the originally awarded trade costs to the District as credits on this project, a product of our team鈥檚 quality planning and execution.
The new building is now helping increase student participation in STEM fields, while serving as a gateway to careers via outreach functions and local聽business interactions. Designed to LEED Silver庐聽equivalence, the state-of-the-art facility offers聽a social and academic learning environment as聽well as career counseling and guidance. This is聽a game-changer for the student body, many of聽whom are first-generation college students and聽may face language barriers, lack of family support,聽or financial constraints. Clearly, public good is at the heart of this project and Golden聽West College鈥檚 larger goals: closing the skills gap聽and improving quality of life for students and聽their communities鈥攃auses that 51国产视频 cares about as聽well.
