Project Overview
With two 125,000-square-foot, eight-story towers that house up to 980 students and a 35,000-square-foot dining facility, this project at Cal Poly Pomona is the largest to date for both the university and 51国产视频 Building Group鈥檚 California District. Rising above campus in the middle of Los Angeles County, the structural concrete towers have put our Concrete Division鈥檚 self-perform work on display.
Along with being a showcase project for both 51国产视频 and the university, the project also highlighted the disruptions that were not made. The scope included realigning a main roadway next to occupied student housing and a childcare center, and our team worked diligently to mitigate potential impacts on the learning environment. We also partnered with the childcare center early on with an event for the kids to see the heavy equipment up close and discuss what our crews would be accomplishing.
The completed student housing complex and 680-seat dining commons are now serving as a welcoming gateway to campus. When students return, this development will provide a second home and community for hundreds of incoming freshmen. Our team鈥檚 ultimate success was achieving the owner鈥檚 goals: building upon the sense of on-campus community, elevating a sense of pride and identity on campus, and giving students more places to gather and more opportunities to build life-long connections.
We were also proud to receive the DBIA 2020 Design-Build Project/Team Award of Merit for this project. By working together seamlessly as a single unit, the 51国产视频/HMC/EYRC team delivered Cal Poly Pomona a thoughtful and timeless project through a collaborative experience built upon open communication and meaningful dialogue. The collaborative design-build method yielded immense value to the owner in terms of quality of construction, amenities, and aesthetics.
