Position description
Under the overarching guidance of the Manager of Campus Infrastructure and Utilities, the incumbent is tasked with several responsibilities. Firstly, they are responsible for executing general repairs on buildings, building components, and furnishings within the realm of carpentry. Secondly, they are expected to construct and install components based on verbal instructions or basic sketches. Finally, they must be prepared to promptly respond to emergency call-ins beyond regular working hours as directed by the supervisor or Duty Engineer.
Position Responsibilities:
Under the overall direction of the Manager of Campus Infrastructure and Utilities:
- Perform general repairs to buildings, building components and furnishings as they relate to the carpentry trade.
- Build and install components from verbal instructions or simple sketches
- Respond promptly to emergency call-ins outside of normal working hours as requested
- Perform other related duties as directed or assigned
Qualifications/skills
A member of CUPE Local 2338
A valid New Brunswick Journeyman Carpenter鈥檚 License
A valid New Brunswick Drivers License
Experience in the following areas (Duties not limited to these areas):
Carpet and tile installation
Drywall and crack filling
Door, glass and hardware installation
Simple cabinetwork
All rough and finish carpentry
Ceramic tile installation and grouting
Suspended ceiling installation
Roofing
Locksmith experience (an asset)
Abilities:
- Ability to understand written and verbal instructions
Physical condition and ability required to perform the assignments outlined under 鈥淣ature of Work鈥 and to use CSA approved safety equipment
Ability to consistently perform manual tasks safely and efficiently
Willingness to perform all specific tasks of this position
Willingness and ability to be available consistently throughout the term of this position
Should be well-organized and have the ability to establish priorities and plan completion of duties related to this position
An attitude that demonstrates a willingness to work as expected and the intention and ability to work cooperatively and effectively with supervisors, faculty, students, co-workers and other staff
Ability to be at work and to work consistently for the hours assigned without direct supervision
